Space Haven Combat Guide

Combat in Space Haven is a multi-layered system combining ship-to-ship tactical combat with direct crew boarding actions. A single mistake — leaving a boarding party unsupported, forgetting to activate shields, or sending your doctor into a firefight — can result in catastrophic crew losses that end your run.

Ship-to-Ship Combat Fundamentals

Activate shields immediately when combat begins. Turrets should be manned by crew with Combat skill — manual fire is "30%" more accurate and "20%" higher damage than automated fire.

Assign at least one crew member with high Industry to a repair station near your combat-facing hull. Keep a stockpile of "20+" Infra Blocks for emergency patching.

Boarding Tactics

A balanced boarding party of "4" works best: "2" assault rifles for medium-range, "1" shotgun for corridors, and "1" sniper for overwatch. Never send your doctor — if they are incapacitated, nobody can heal the wounded.

Enemy Factions & Counter Strategies

Ship Defense Configuration

A properly defended ship has overlapping fields of fire from turrets. Laser turrets are best for sustained damage against shields, cannon turrets for heavy burst damage to hull. Point defense turrets automatically intercept missiles, boarding pods, and fighter craft.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Should I always board enemy ships?

Not always. Boarding is only worth it if the enemy ship has salvageable resources, prisoners, or advanced technology. Pirate Scavenger loot is usually minimal — salvage the wreck instead.

Q: How do I capture enemy crew?

Equip boarding party with stun batons. Incapacitated enemies can be captured. Prisoners can be recruited after conversion in a holding cell, but watch their loyalty — recent captives may attempt escape.

Q: What if my shield generator is destroyed?

Shields drop immediately. Order all gunners to repair. Rebuild costs "12 Infra Blocks" and "10 Tech Blocks". Consider hyperdrive jump retreat if the enemy still has significant firepower.
